Newcastle United vs West Ham United: The Hammers’ Next Target for Permanence
West Ham United is still alive and daunting. They want to show the world that they have all it takes to be in the top tier. This weekend, David Moyes’ men are continuing their battle for survival by paying a visit to St.James’ Park to scrape points so as to keep them away from the red zone. Both teams are in a great confidence and ready to snatch the available points here on matchday 33. It is definitely meant to be an exciting clash.
Newcastle United news
The Toon Army blasted again in the midweek. In the away fixture against Bournemouth, Steve Bruce’s men were back in action after failing in the FA Cup and trashed the host 4-1. Dwight Gayle started the goal parade in Vitality Stadium followed by Sean Longstaff’s strike. At the second half, Miguel Almiron netted the third then Inter Milan loanee Valentino Lazaro scored their fourth goal before Bournemouth scored a consolation goal by Dan Gosling. It was their second victory after the restart.
West Ham news
The Hammers even had a more surprising result in the midweek. They overturned all the prediction and thumped Chelsea 3-2 at home in a seesaw game. Mark Noble and Co were one goal behind as Willian converted the penalty successfully. Not long after, Tomas Soucek equalised by his header after taking advantage of a corner kick. They even took the lead when Michael Antonio tucked in the ball into the back of the net. Next, Willian’s curling free kick found the back of the net after hitting the post. Finally on the 89th minute, they initiated a swift counter attack with Michael Antonio on the side helping out and his assist to Andrey Yarmolenko led to the Ukrainian international scored the winning goal. It was the victory they needed badly for safety.
Missing players and probable lineups
Steve Bruce’s experiment in deploying 4-2-3-1 to be more offensive in the previous game seemed to work well. He is likely to employ it again with the transition to 4-3-1-2 if necessary. Joelinton succeeded in playing wide against Bournemouth while Dwight Gayle will be the targetman up front. The absence of Javier Manquillo, Ciaran Clark, Florian Lejeune and Sean Longstaff will not affect much in their starting IX.
Newcastle: Martin Dubravka; Jamal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez, Matt Richie, Emil Kraft; Isaac Hayden, Nabil Bentaleb; Jonjo Shelvey, Joelinton, Allan Saint Maximin; Dwight Gayle.
David Moyes might still be opting for 4-2-3-1 but with more pragmatic approach, his team can be deadly relying on swift counter attack and set pieces. Jarred Bowen is the new rising star in his squad. He will be supporting Michail Antonio and Andrey Yarmolenko who deserves to be in the starting IX. Unfortunately, Mark Noble, Sebastian Haller, Arthur Masuaku and Robert Snodgrass will still be sitting out for this fixture.
West Ham: Lukas Fabianski; Angelo Ogbonna, Ryan Fredericks, Aaron Cresswell, Issa Diop ; Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek ; Pablo Fornals, Jarred Bowen, Andrey Yarmolenko ; Michael Antonio.
In the head-to-head meetings, Newcastle has better records. They have won four times in the last six encounters, while West Ham managed to win only twice.
The host’s position in the standings might be already safe but it does not mean that they will just let go of the remaining points, including in this match. With less pressure, Jonjo Shelvey and Co are likely to continue their good form for their die-hard fans at home. This can be tricky for The Hammers as they still need another three points to avoid the relegation threat. Overall, the draw result is still an ideal one for both.
