Udinese vs Atalanta: The Host’s Winless Run Might Endure
Udinese was once a dark horse in Serie A. The names of Oliver Bierhoff, Marcio Amoroso, Thomas Helveg and their boss Alberto Zaccheroni were parts of their success staying on the top five in mid and late 90s, while Atalanta was rather a mediocre team. Sadly, they are now on the lower table struggling for their future safety. What’s more, the table is turning as their opponent is on the top four and already progressing to the quarter final of Champions League this season. They will be squaring off this weekend in Udine. However, despite playing at home, it is still unlikely for Rodrigo de Paul and Co to end their winless run considering the visitor’s positive trend.
Udinese restarted their Serie A campaign with a rather disappointing result. They were beaten by Torino on the road. A single goal of Mauro Belotti was enough to ruin Udinese’s hope to snatch a point in Turin.
Atalanta were able to make a stunning comeback while hosting Lazio after the lockdown. Despite conceding twice by Marten De Roon’s own goal and Sergej-Milenkovic Savic’s strike, they did not lose the spirit. Alejandro Gomez and Co managed to turn things round by Robin Gosens’, Ruslan Malinovsky’ and Juan Palomino’s goal
Missing players and probable line ups
Luca Gotti tends to employ 3-5-2 formation. Normally, Kevin Lasagna and Stefano Okaka are his main forwards up front supported by Argentinean international, Rodrigo de Paul. Unfortunately, he will be ruled out due to his suspension while Rolando Mandragora is on the injury table. Gotti will have to improvise with his squad.
Udinese: Juan Musso; Bram Nuytinck, Willam Trost-Ekong, Samir ; Ken Serma, Wallace, Seko Fofana, Jens Stryger Larssen, Marvin Zeegelaar ; Kevin Lasagna, Stefano Okaka.
Gian Gasperini’s side has always been opting for 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-1-2 formation relying on the Argentine captain Alejandro Gomez as the anchor while attacking. Josep Illicic will be the main scorer. Yet, other key men in the midfield have been terrific at scoring as well. Luckily, none is sidelined for this fixture.
Atalanta: Pierluigi Gollini; Jose Luis Palomino, Mattia Caldara, Rafael Toloi; Marten De Roon, Timothy Castagne, Hans Hateboer, Ruslan Malinovsky; Alejandro Gomez ; Duvan Zapata, Josip Illicic.
Atalanta have been in a impressive so far without a single defeat in the last nine games in all competition, including the Champions League. They are superiot too in the head-to-head encounters, with 4 wins and 1 draw in their last six meetings. Udinese, on the other hand, could only secure a victory once.
The game is likely to be one-sided as Atalanta’s squad have been fully fit, both physically and mentally. Considering their trend and convincing display in the previous game, only their own blunder would prevent Gasperini’s men from picking up three points in Friuli this time.
