Atalanta vs Juventus: Match preview
Juventus has some problems in Serie A this season, which doesn’t look so bad when you look at the table and the situation on the same. Still, it’s clear that Juventus’ game is not the same as in previous years.
Atalanta is in the top spot this season as well, being major contenders for the Champions League standings and may even be capable of recapturing Juventus, as they did last season.
Atalanta team news:
Six wins, four draws and two losses – that’s the current balance of Gasperini’s team so far this season. They are only two points behind third-placed Lazio, but that is nine points behind second-placed Inter Milan and ten points behind Saturday’s opponent.
It will be very difficult for Atalanta to compete for first place, but third position is still available, even at this early stage of the season. But since Udinese was defeated by 7-1 Gasperini’s team has won just two points out of a possible nine. They had draws with Napoli and Sampdoria, and losing to Cagliari.
Still, Atalanta have lost only one of their last five Serie A games with Juve, while defeating the Old Lady 3-0 in the Cup final last season on their way to the finals.
Probable lineup: Gollini; Toloi, Djimsiti, Palomino; Castagne, De Roon, Freuler, Gosens; Pasalic; Gomez, Zapata.
Juventus team news:
A 1-0 win over Milan before the international break was vital, though due to a knee problem Cristiano Ronaldo finished the match earlier. There seems to be tension between the Portuguese international and Sarri, which is unnecessary at this stage of the season.
Including the Champions League, the Turin Giants have won their last four matches after a 1-1 draw at Lecce. They will deploy forces with Atletico Madrid and Sassuolo in the next two rounds after this, before heading to Lazio on the second weekend of December for a very difficult visit.
The fact that Juve have won 26 of their last 34 games against Atalanta carries much weight, though there is no doubt that the Italian champions will face a serious opponent on Saturday afternoon.
Probable lineup: Szczesny; Cuadrado, Bonucci, De Ligt, De Sciglio; Khedira, Pjanic, Matuidi; Bernardeschi; Higuain, Ronaldo.
Four of the last five Serie A matches between the two teams have ended in a draw, including each of the last three at Atalanta Stadium. Juve certainly has the quality to collect all three points, but we expect Gasperini’s team to claim some of the spoils in front of their fans.
