West Ham vs Chelsea : The Hammers Could Drown into Relegation
The Hammers’ campaign in the top flight has been horrible this season. They are now on the 17thof the table collecting the same points as Bournemouth and Aston Villa in the relegation zone. With only seven matches remaining, three points are absolutely necessary for David Moyes’ men to stay in EPL. Otherwise, they will only be counting days to their own fall. Unfortunately, such will not be an easy task as they will be welcoming Chelsea this midweek.
West Ham news
West Ham were hapless in the previous match of London Derby while travelling to Tottenham Stadium. They were dismantled 0-2 by the host. Tomas Souceks own goal sadly opened the score sheet and Harry Kanes strike doubled their lead till the final whistle. It was their third consecutive scoreless defeats.
The Blues, on the other hand, managed to progress to FA Cup semi final after beating Leicester City in a hard-fought game last week. Ross Barkley netted a winning goal. They could have been able to score more if Kasper Schmeichel had not made several crucial saves.
Missing players and probable lineups
The former Everton and Manchester United boss, David Moyes, tends to employ the 4-2-3-1 formation, which has not been very promising. Thus, he is in need to modify it to 4-4-1-1 or 5-3-2 to frustrate Chelsea’s offensive side. Playing Michael Antonio as the lone striker might not be effective. Since, Sebastian Haller, Arthur Masuaku and Robert Snodgrass are ruled out, he could be paired up with Felipe Anderson or Andrey Yarmolenko upfront with the support of Manuel Lanzini, Mark Noble and Declan Rice in the midfield.
West Ham: Lukas Fabianski; Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna, Ryan Fredericks, Aaron Cresswell ; Declan Rice, Mark Noble, Manuel Lanzini; Felipe Anderson, Michael Antonio.
Frank Lampards side seems to be more confident with 4-3-3 after the outstanding results in FA Cup and a victory against Manchester City. Tammy Abraham might be opted for the main front man accompanied by Willian and Ross Barkley who is being pushed forward as Christian Pulisic, along with Fikayo Tomori, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Andres Christensen and Marco Van Ginkel, misses out the game. In the midfield, Jorginho, Robin Loftus-Creek and Mateo Kovacic are likely to be given a chance in the starting IX.
Chelsea: Kepa Arrizabalaga ; Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudinger, Emerson, Cesar Azpilicueta; NGolo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic; Tammy Abraham, Willian, Ross Barkley.
In the head-to-head meetings, neither side is more dominant. They share the same number of two wins and two draws in the last six encounters. However, the match is not likely to be even at all.
It is surely the tough game for the host. Even snatching one point here seems impossible considering Chelsea’s positive trend. Willian and Co are likely to secure three points again, probably in a big score.
