Watford vs Aston Villa: Match Preview

Two teams both positioned in the relegation zone meet on Saturday afternoon as Watford hosts Aston Villa in Vicarage Road Stadium for another Premier League delightful clash. Watford is coming to this match after earning points on the road against Sheffield United, but will end the year in the bottom three regardless of this result. Aston Villa on the other side after managing to beat Norwich City on Thursday will look forward for another three points as they aim to climb up to the safety zone.

Watford News:

Watford are currently 19’th in the table and this Premier League campaign has been terrible so far for them having gained only 13 points out of total 19 matches played. However they have shown signs of improvement under Nigel Pearson having won against Manchester United and they also shared the spoils against Sheffield United on Thursday. Adding the fact they have won the last two matches their morale should be high this time and they might be aiming to gain some positive result.

Aston Villa News:

Aston Villa managed to get out with a victory against the fellow strugglers Norwich City on Boxing Day and now they have ended their five matches winless streak. The only goal was scored in the second half from the Irish man Conor Hourihane. This weekend they meet another relegation six-pointer against Watford. Despite having spent heavily over the summer and attracting some excellent players there is no getting away from the fact that Villa’s campaign has been a struggle as well. Their next two outings against Watford and Burnley are essential for them before meeting Manchester City at home by which they expect to be out of the bottom three.

Watford Team News:

Watford’s key midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure will return at the center of their midfield after one match suspension against Sheffield. Pereyra is another man to start on Saturday after seeing Ismail Sarr having picked up a knock. Jose Holebas is suffering from an ankle injury. Danny Welbeck, Sebastian Prodl, Daryl Janmaat and Tom Cleverly remain the long-term absences.

Aston Villa Team News:

After deciding to rotate the squad against Norwich with Bjorn Engels, Frederic Guilbert and Jonathan Kodija being not used as substitutes, Dean Smith will have more options on Saturday and the above mentioned guys could all be in the first eleven. Tyron Mings is expected to miss the clash due to the hamstring injury so Kortney Hause will continue on defense. Keinan Davis is back on training but Saturday may be too soon for him.

Probable Lineups:

Watford Lineups: Ben Foster, Kiko Femenia, Craig Cathcart, Christian Kabasele, Adrian Mariappa, Will Hughes, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Etienne Capoue, Roberto Pereyra, Troy Deeney, Gerard Deulofeu; Coach: Nigel Pearson

Aston Villa Lineups: Tom Heaton, Matt Targett, Kortney Hause, Ezri Konsa, Frederic Guilbert, Douglas Luiz, Conor Hourihane, Jota, Jack Grealish, Anwar El Ghazi, Wesley; Coach: Dean Smith

Match Facts:

-This will be the seventh Premier League clash between these teams. Aston Villa have won three, Watford have won two. One match has ended in a draw.

-Aston Villa has the worst away record in the Premier League. They have picked only four points from the nine matches on the road.

Match Prediction:

Watford has shown signs of improvement under Nigel Pearson. They are coming to this match after beating Man UTD and drawing against Sheffield United. Villa’s away record has been poor this season and we might see them struggling for another time against Watford. We see a potential golden chance for both teams to earn points and that’s why we predict a draw. Match Prediction: Draw
