Southampton vs Tottenham Hotspur: Match preview
Tottenham cannot stand up in any way, and time passes. The defeat to Chelsea shook them a lot, so they played two more bad games after that one.
They first beat Brighton on their White Hart Lane, and after the turnaround, they were able to score in Norwich, just in the finish. Such results do not reach the Champions League, but fortunately they do not shine with other competitors, especially Chelsea and United, and what to say about Arsenal.
Visiting South Harbor can be a turning point. Southampton have played solidly, scoring seven points in the previous three rounds, and have recorded two victories on the side, in two consecutive away games, at Aston Villa and Chelsea. At home, they had draw with Crystal Palace, which only confirms that they are not yet a team that can safely claim to remain in the league.
Southampton team news:
Southampton is still very much under pressure from the relegation zone. Still, this team keeps their heads above water, thanks to excellent away games.
At home, Southampton plays significantly weaker. The results are much more negative and Southampton are next to West Ham and Norwich in terms of home losses this season (2-2-6).
In one domain, Southampton, in turn, is the league’s negative record holder. Only Southampton and the last Norwich team to date have received more than twenty goals, with Southampton the most.
But before Tottenham came to their stadium, the Southampton players had a very good track record. They achieved two, we would almost say, magnificent away victories (3-1 at Aston Villa and 2-0 at Chelsea). After that they avoided defeat as hosts against Crystal Palace.
Probable lineup: McCarthy, Soares, Stephens, Bednarek, Bertrand, Djenepo, Ward-Prowse, Hojbjerg, Redmond, Ings, Obafemi.
Tottenham team news:
Tottenham was left without an expected win last weekend. They played 2-2 at Norwich. The last draw played by Tottenham was almost two months ago (Sheffield 1-1) and it was Pochettino’s last game on the Spurs bench.
And then Jose Mourinho came to the club and Tottenham either won (six times, all competitions) or lost (three times). This will be their second away game at Southampton, with Kane and company not doing well this season either.
Compared to the other teams from the top home rankings, Tottenham has the fewest away wins. Also, this will be the third consecutive game Tottenham has to play without a suspended Son, and this is a guest appearance where he has not won in his last two championship attempts. He was defeated last season (1-2), while the team also remembered two seasons ago (1-1).
Probable lineup: Gazzaniga, Aurier, Alderweireld, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Sissoko, Winks, Lucas Moura, Alli, Eriksen, Kane.
Tottenham is a better team and they need points. Home team will not give up, but still we don’t give them much chances. Our prediction is that both teams will score, but Tottenham will score more for sure.
