Manchester City vs Chelsea: Match preview
After a break the club football returns to the scene in some style. All attention will be focused on England and the City of Manchester, where the forces will be weighted by City and Chelsea. The Guardiola’s squad has some problems this season, while Chelsea led by Lampard is completely revived.
Manchester City team news:
It could be said that this year things are not going too well for the Citizens. Shocking defeats by Norwich and Wolves came before the expected defeat against Liverpool, which greatly shook the City team.
They are currently fourth in the Premier League, nine points behind Liverpool and also behind Chelsea and Leicester. Manchester City are not in optimal form at the moment, and Aymeric Laporte’s injury has certainly affected that.
Probable lineup: Ederson; Walker. Stones, Fernandinho, Mendy; David Silva, Rodri, De Bruyne; Mahrez, Sterling, Aguero
Chelsea team news:
The Blues, led by club legend Frank Lampard, on the other hand, looked like they would have another unsuccessful season back in August, when they lost to Manchester United 4-0, but things have improved dramatically since then.
Lampard’s focus on using the extensive collection of young players at his disposal paid off. Their 2-0 victory over Palace last round was his sixth league win. But it is worth noting that Chelsea have lost both games against the clubs of the “Big Six”, which in no way helps them.
Chelsea’s problem clearly comes from the defensive. The open style of play leaves a lot of room ahead of their goals, resulting in a total of 17 goals in 12 league games. Things are even worse in away games where they receive an average of two goals per game.
Probable lineup: Kepa; Azpilicueta, Zouma, Tomori, Emerson; Kovacic, Jorginho, Kante; Mount, Abraham, Pulisic
Halfway through Manchester City’s home games, spectators were able to see at least four goals scored, and all but one of Chelsea’s away games ended the same way. Chelsea could also score a shot as they do not know how to play other than offensively but the City average of goals per game of 3.16 does not support them.
