Liverpool – Everton: Match preview
Liverpool will host Everton at Anfield in the 193 city derby in the history of the two clubs in the 15th round of the Premier League. Teams are entering this match with different moods. Liverpool won against Brighton in the last match at this stadium, until Everton lost to Leicester 2-1 away.
The Reds are currently at the top of the table, with eight points in front of runner-up Leicester. They hope to increase that advantage in this game and expand their six-game winning streak in the league.
Everton, on the other hand, struggles to escape the relegation zone. Their 2-1 defeat over the weekend sentenced Everton to their seventh defeat in ten games. Anything but a win in this match will definitely be a dismissal for Marco Silva.
Liverpool team news:
There is not much to say about Liverpool, which has not been said this season. Although not in fantastic form in the last few games, they have produced positive results. Virgil van Dijk’s two goals in the first half were enough to take all three points against Brighton for the weekend in a 2-1 game. It is the seventh in 14 games that Liverpool have won with that result.
By what we said that they did not play well means only they have high standards. Mane has been a class performer all season, and there is no denying that they have the best backs in the country with Andy Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Reds are undefeated this season after dropping points only once in a draw against Manchester United (1-1). This could be a tough day for Everton fans.
Probable lineup: Adrian; Alexander-Arnold, Lovren, Van Dijk, Robertson; Oxlade-Chamberlain, Henderson, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Everton team news:
Everton has been struggling this season. The team does not seem to be able to fit into the style of play, while obviously they have very little confidence. When this is a team situation, then things usually go against you.
Marco Silva’s team played well in Leicester last weekend and they deservedly led in that game. Leicester equalized before they scored a controversial goal in the 94th minute and took all three points. That means Silva is now likely to rely on the result against league leaders and current European champions to keep his job at Everton.
Before that game, Everton was nowhere near the level they were supposed to be. Eight defeats show how bad they have been so far. However, there are traces of hope with Brazilian Richarlison being the biggest threat on this team.
Probable lineup: Pickford; Digne, Holgate, Mina, Sidibe; Davies, Schneiderlin; Walcott, Sigurdsson, Richarlison; Calvert-Lewin
Klopp likely wants to keep his eight point gap at the top of the table with a win in this match. A one-sided derby is expected here. Everton hasmanaged to win three draws against Liverpool in their last five matches but have not beaten the Reds at Anfield in the last 20 years.
Unfortunately for Everton fans and for Marco Silva, Liverpool is expected to win here.
