Arsenal vs Chelsea: Match preview
Arsenal will host their biggest city rival Chelsea in the 20th round of the Premier League on Sunday. Arsenal will enter this match after they draw on Boxing Day against Bournemouth away 1-1. On the other side Chelsea disappointingly lost at home against Southampton 0-2.
Arsenal team news:
The Arteta era at Arsenal has started with a draw against Bournemouth, however, a big test for Arteta will only be this weekend when they play against Chelsea. Their hopes for the first four teams will be destroyed if they lose both of these games.
They play first against Chelsea at Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal hoping to reduce the current gap of eight points between the two teams. The Gunners are 11th on the Premier League table, and a record of three wins, four draws and two home defeats in the league is a real disappointment.
Arsenal’s poor streak includes just one win in their last 14 games in all competitions. They have not achieved one in their last four games, following that 1-3 win over West Ham at London Stadium. Arsenal have lost one of their last five games, but they enter this match without a win in six matches at Emirates Stadium. Even more worrying is that they have lost three games in a row here.
Probable lineup: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, David Luiz, Saka, Torreira, Xhaka, Nelson, Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette.
Chelsea team news:
Frank Lampard has given further evidence that their team needs reinforcements in January if it wants this season to be the one Chelsea hopes. Young have laid the groundwork for a strong 2019/20 season, but recent inconsistent results suggest more is needed.
The lack of constancy highlighted a 0-2 defeat against Southampton last round in front of their fans. This was a proof that Chelsea are is shining this season. They lost at home just days after beating Tottenham away.
They remain fourth in the Premier League table, but the gap for fifth place has now narrowed again. Chances are big that Chelsea will fall out of the top four teams. They have a solid performance of 6 wins and three away draws in the league, where they have scored 22 and received 17 goals.
Chelsea has now alternated defeats and victories in their last seven games in all competitions (4 defeats and 3 victories. That is the main concern of manager Frank Lampard who changed the starting lineup against Southampton. They played three away games without a win before that win against Tottenham.
Probable lineup: Kepa, Azpilicueta, Rudiger, Tomori, Alonso, Jorginho, Kante, Kovacic, Willian, Pulisic, Abraham.
In our opinion it is very realistic that both teams will score. Both teams have a very good offense and we are sure we will have one very offensive game on both sides with at least one goal. Arsenal needs a win here, because they stand badly on the table. They need three points.
Chelsea lost points in the last round, losing to Southampton, but are very good at playing away this season. They also need points to keep themselves in the top four teams. We have two very strong teams here, although Arsenal are much weaker this season, it is difficult to determine who will win, so it seems to me the best option is to go with a lot of goals.
