This is the clash of the mid table. Strasbourg and Lyon are both sitting on the twelfth and ninth of the standings with only one point difference. Whichever team could win this match, they will have an opportunity to climb to the higher position on the table. Both teams’ campaign have been quite positive, especially for the Lyon’s side after sacking Sylvinho. This match will be held in Stade de la Meinau, Strasbourg.
Strasbourg seems to be in their positive trend. Thierry Laurey’s men had two wins consecutively. Last week, they won over Amiens 4-0 in their away match. Anthony Caci, Ludovic Ajorque, Adrien Thomasson and Nuno Da Costa bagged the winning goals. It was the second time they netted four goals to secure three points. In the previous week, they hammered Nimes 4-1.
Lyon’s form has been quite improving lately. However, there are still lots of work to be done, especially for their away outings. This midweek, they were shockingly beaten by Zenit St.Petersburg by 2-0. They had the same failure while visiting Marseille three weeks ago when they lost 1-2. Yet, last week, Moussa Dembele and Co managed to seal three points while hosting Nice. The winning goals were score by Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Moussa Dembele himself. Their contender could only reply one goal from Kasper Dolberg.
Missing players and probable lineups:
Rudi Garcia tends to deploy 4-2-3-1 after Memphis Depay was ruled out due to the injuries. Previously, he preferred 4-4-1-1 or 4-4-2 with twin strikers Depay-Dembele. Lately, the former Lille, Roma and Marseille boss, he counts on Dembele as the lone striker supported by Bertrand Traore who plays wide. Sadly, beside Depay, three other names have to be sidelined. Thiago Mendes and Houssam Aourar will miss the game because of the injuries, while Marcal is ruled out for his suspension.
Olympique Lyon: Anthony Lopes; Kenny Tete, Jason Denayer, Joachim Andersen, Youssuf Kone; Lucas Tousart, Jean Lucas; Jeff Reine-Adeleide, Maxwell Cornet, Bertrand Traore; Moussa Dembele.
Thierry Laurey has been in favour of 4-3-1-2 formation lately with the transition to 4-4-2 diamond. He relies on duo frontman, Ludovic Ajorque and South African international, Lebo Mothiba. Fortunately, only two non important players are in the injury table, Jeremy Grimm and Sanjin Prcic.
Strasbourg: Matz Sels; Stefan Mitrovic, Lamine Kone, Kenny Lala, Anthony Caci; Alexander Djiku; Ibrahima Sissoko, Youssuf Fofana, Adrien Thomasson; Lebo Mothiba, Ludovic Ajorque.
Lyon is simply the superior side for their head-to-head meetings. Anthony Lopes and Co have been able to win three times in their last six outings. However, Strasbourg have won in their last four home matches.
The absence of Memphis Depay does influence the attacking side of Rudi Garcia’s men. This could affect their form, including in this fixture. The host could take the advantage to snatch a point here. A draw seems to be the most reasonable results for both.
