Another big match in Ligue 1 will be on schedule this Sunday as Olympique Lyon is travelling to Parc Des Princess to take on the defending Champions, PSG. The host is certainly the favourite as they have been simply running on the own for securing the domestic title soon, while Lyon is still struggling for European spot next season. They are still stuck on the eighth of the table. It is certainly a clash of two big teams despite their current position.
Keylor Navas and Co continued their winning days comfortably. In the previous game against Nantes during the midweek fixtures, they smashed the host 2-1. Mauro Icardi and Thilo Kehrer bagged the winning goals before being conceded by Moses Simon. This result extends their lead by eleven points from the runner up.
Rudi Garcia's men failed to win again in their last two games. After losing against Nice last weekend, they were held in a goalless draw by Amiens. The injury of Memphis Depay seems to be reducing their attacking side. The arrival of Karl Toko Ekambi from Villareal has not been able to replace him yet, despite scoring two goals already.
Missing players and probable lineups
Thomas Tuchel has opted various formations from 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 3-4-2-1 and recently 4-2-2-2. The absence of Neymar could still be covered by other world class frontmen. Yet, the other names on the table such as Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Ander Herrera, Colin Dagba, Juan Bernat and Abdou Diallo cause them in crisis on the defensive side. It will be something Tuchel needs to focus on for this match.
PSG: Keylor Navas; Leyvin Kurzawa, Presnel Kimpembe, Thilo Kehrer, Thomas Munier; Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes; Angel Di Maria, Pablo Sarabia ; Mauro Icardi, Kyllian Mbappe.
Meanwhile, Rudi Garcia often opts for 4-2-3-1. Unfortunately, he will not be able to play his main forward, Memphis Depay, due to his injury. Whats worse, he is not the only ones on the sideline. There are other names as well such as Youssouf Kone, Oumar Solet, Leo Dubois, Martin Terrier and Jeff Reine-Adelaide. Thus, to close down Le Parisiens lines of frontmen, he would need to employ more pragmatic tactical approach. The 5-3-2 formation seems quite suitable.
Lyon: Anthony Lopes; Rafael, Marcelo, Joachim Andresen, Jason Denayer, Marcal; Lucas Tousart, Hossam Aouar, Kenny Tete; Karl Toko Ekambi, Moussa Dembele.
In the last six head-to-head meetings, Les Gones were only able to win four twice while Le Parisien had four victories. They even have defeated Lyon in their last eight home matches. Thus, PSG seems unstoppable.
Thomas Tuchel's men's defense may have been in crisis but they have more than enough option to replace Neymar. Therefore, unless Rudi Garcia could find a way to frustrate their attacking side, the host will eventually seal three points despite being conceded perhaps.
