Marseille – Toulouse: Match preview
Marseille and Toulouse play in round 24 of French Ligue 1 at Velodrome Stadium in Marseille. The home team is in very good shape and on a great path to secure the Champions League standings next season. On the other side, guests are at the bottom of the standings and are certain to be relegated.
Marseille team news:
Andre Villas-Boas’s team celebrated against Bordeaux on Wednesday and won its 12th win in the last 15 games in all competitions. They have scored 27 goals, with five games without a goal in the same period. Marseille has been pretty impressive on their ground, where they have celebrated in seven of their last eight duels, with just one draw.
The defeat they experienced in the season opener against Reims is their only one at the Velodrome this season. They are currently ranked second in Ligue 1 with 12 points behind the leading PSG, which is of course unachievable, but what matters most to them is that they have a solid 6 points advantage over third-placed Rennes.
Probable lineup: Mandanda – Sakai, Ćaleta-Car, Gonzalez, Amavi – Rongier, Strootman, Sanson – Radonjić, Benedetto, Payet.
Toulouse team news:
Toulouse is going through a very turbulent period this season. They are at the bottom of the table with only 13 points from 23 rounds. As things stand, they are on the inevitable road to Ligue 2, especially since they have been defeated 13 times in the last 14 games in all competitions, with only one draw (against Amiens away last weekend).
Denis Zanko is the third coach this season, and he took over the hot club Toulouse a month ago, and it looks like he won’t have more success than his predecessor. Certainly, his main goal is to avoid relegation, but in the situation they are in, with 9 points below the danger zone and 7 less than the point leading into the play-out, this would be a real feat.
Probable lineup: Reynet – Moreira, Gabrielsen, Diakite, Sylla – Sangare, Vainqueur, Kone – Dossevi, Koulouris, Boisgard.
The situation in here is pretty obvious and there should be no doubt about the final outcome. Match between two teams that are in stark contrast to form and results – on the one hand Marseille is playing great, especially on their own ground, and on the other Toulouse, which is “hooked” to the bottom and has been showing desperate results for a long time, and is the team with the worst performance in all five leagues. All things considered, we expect a routine home win for this game, with at least two goals difference.
