The Ligue 1 2019/2020 is currently getting more competitive. Les Parisien’s domination in the past few years might end this season if Thiago Silva and Co is stumbled into inconsistency. The gap between them and their contenders on the seventh of the standings is only three points. On matchday 8, Thomas Tuchel’s men will be visiting Stade Matmut Atlantique, or was also known as Stade Parc Lescure, Bordeaux to take on the host. They are currently lying on the fifth of the table with only three points away from PSG. Thus, with the current crisis at the frontmen in their squad, Tuchel has to be careful in this away game.
Bordeaux’s campaign in Ligue 1 this season is quite impressive. Paulo Sousa has been able to bring out the best of the team so far with three wins and only one loss in seven matches. This former FC Basel’s and Fiorentina’s boss counts on the combination of the senior and young players in the squad. Last week, they hammered Amiens 3-1 in their away match. Their promising youngster, Yacine Adli and Nigerian Samuel Kalu netted the winning goals. Their summer signings, the former Arsenal man, Laurent Koscielny and South Korean striker, Hwang Ui –Jo, has been regularly in the line-up as well.
The most elite club in France now, Paris Saint Germain, is undergoing a tough rivalry. They have a number of players sidelined due to injuries, including some key players like Edison Cavani and Kylian Mbappe. Last week, they even had to slump to another defeat at home by the Stade De Reims, the UCL runner up in 1956 and 1959. The absence of experienced defenders left a hole in the penalty box. Reims eventually could exploit it as Hassane Kamara’s header and Boulaye Dia’s overhead kick led to their winning goal. Le Parisien’s new signings such as Ander Herrera, Pablo Sarabia and Idrissa Gueye have been quite satisfactory so far, except Mauro Icardi.
Missing players and probable lineups:
Paulo Sousa is normally in favour of 3-4-2-1 or 4-2-3-1 depending on the opponents. In this upcoming game, the first one seems more suitable to hold the creative forward as Neymar and Di Maria from penetrating their defence line. By covering their space to dribble and hold the ball, they will have to take a long shot from outside the penalty area. Luckily, there is no one in the injury table.
Bordeaux: Benoit Costil; Pablo, Laurent Koscielny, Mexer; Loris Benito, Enock Kwateng, Otavio, Aurelien Tchouameni; Yacine Adli, Samuel Kalu ; Jimmy Briand.
Thomas Tuchel has had a number of formations as his preference. He is likely to employ the 4-2-3-1. Yet, he also needs to consider rotating the squad as they have another important fixture in UCL in the midweek against Galatasaray. Some names which is still ruled out for this match are Edison Cavani (hip injury), Thilo Kehrer and Julian Draxler (foot injury), Colin Dagba (muscle injury) and Mauro Icardi (minor knock).
PSG: Keylor Navas; Thiago Silva, Marquinhos, Thomas Munier, Juan Bernat; Idresse Gueye, Leandro Paredes; Marco Verratti Neymar, Pablo Sarabia ; Kylian Mbappe.
Both teams seem to have a positive record in their own way. The host have been unbeaten for the past six games in Ligue 1 while Le Parisien have won six times in their last seven head-to-head encounter.
It is certainly not an easy match for both to pick up three points. However, if Paulo Sousa’s men could make Neymar and Co frustrated as Reims did last week, they have a chance to secure a win.
