Celta Vigo’s campaign in La Liga this season has been disappointing. They have only collected nine points in thirteen games so far from two wins, three draws and eight losses. No wonder that they are stuck in the relegation zone. The newly appointed boss, Oscar Garcia, will certainly have lots of work to do to improve the team’s mentality and tactics for much better results. This weekend, Iago Aspas and Co will have to visit Estadio De La Ceramica to take on the host, which sits on the mid table.
Javier Calleja’s men have been winless in their last three games. Before the international break, they even suffered a loss against the promoted team, RC Mallorca 3-1. Two of the host goals were from the penalty by Lago Junior and Dani Rodriguez before the Japanese wonderkid, Takefusa Kubo netted the last goal of the game. The Yellow Submarine could only score by Santi Cazorla’s penalty.
Celta Vigo news:
Celta’s form under the previous manager, Fran Escriba was horrible. Yet, Oscar Garcia had not been able to turn things around quickly. He had a rather unlucky debut as the team had to visit Camp Nou. They were hammered 4-1 by Barcelona as Messi scored a hattrick by set pieces eventhough they had a chance to level the host first at the first half.
Missing players and probable lineups:
Javier Calleja tends to employ 4-3-3 or 4-1-4-1 with rather offensive approach. He relies on Spanish international forward, Gerard Moreno and Cameronian forward, Karl Toko Ekambi. Unfortunately, some key figures are on the injury table such as Alberto Moreno, Bruno Soriano and the goalie Sergio Asenjo. What’s more, the former Real Madrid and Napoli defender, Raul Albiol is suspended too.
Villareal: Andres Fernandez; Mario Gaspar, Ramiro Funes Mori, Pau Torres, Xavi Quintilla; Vicente Iborra, Santi Cazorla, Frank Anguissa; Moi Gomez, Karl Toko Ekambi, Gerard Moreno
Meanwhile, Oscar Garcia might still be in search of the best formation for his team after 5-3-2 which was deployed against Barcelona failed. He could attempt to 3-4-2-1 or 3-4-3 to expose more attacks on both wings plus penetration from the middle by creative attacking midfielder such as Denis Suarez. Sadly, Rafinha and Santi Mina will be sidelined for this game.
Celta Vigo: Sergio Alvarez; Nestor Araujo, Joseph Aidoo, David Costas; Hugo Mallo, Lucas Olaza, Okay Yokuslu, Stanislav Lobotka; Denis Saurez, Pione Sisto, Iago Aspas.
Villareal is the superior side in the head-to-head encounter. They have won four times in the last six meetings. Their counterpart, Celta Vigo, has been unable to win in the last 18 away games.
Santi Cazorla and Co is the favourite for sealing three points here despite the absence of Sergio Asenjo and Raul Albiol. However, Oscar Garcia’s men still has the potential to snatch at least one point provided he could stun the host with surprising tactics.
