Getafe’s dream for Champions League has been closer to reality. They are now on the top four of the standings and just toppled Atletico Madrid last week. However, the season is still far from over yet and their points are still the same as Atletico, which means their position is still potentially taken over once they slip or fail to win in each fixture. Thus, Jaime Mata and Co have to strive for another three points while taking on Athletic Bilbao, which has been known for the master of a draw result, considering their trend in La Liga lately.
Bilbao has been unbeaten actually in the past five games in La Liga. Yet, all results were in draw. Last week, they had a 1-1 draw against Espanyol. Gaizka Garitanos men took the lead first by Asier Villalibre but then Raul de Tomas equalised at the second half. Moreover, they have done well in Copa Del Rey too so far. They won over Tenerife by penalties after being held in 3-3 draw this midweek.
Meanwhile, Getafe was a bit lucky last weekend while hosting Real Betis. David Soria and Co had to rely on a penalty almost at the end of the game to secure a win. It was Angel Rodriguez who bagged the only goal. During this current transfer window, they made two signings, the Brasilian frontman, Deyverson from Palmerias and Oghenekaro Etebo, the Nigerian midfielder from Stoke City. However, they released the Uruguayan centre back, Leandro Cabrera on 9 million Euro to Espanyol.
Missing players and probable lineups
Gaizka Garitano tends to employ two kinds of formations, 4-2-3-1 for the offensive one and 5-3-2 for the tough games against the big teams. For this upcoming fixture, he might be deploying the former one for aiming three points, which they last had in early December 2019. There are only two names who will miss out the game, the senior striker Aritz Aduritz and Oscar de Marcos
Athletic Bilbao: Unai Simon; Andre Capa, Yuri, Unai Nunez, Inigo Martinez; Unai Lopez, Dani Garcia; Iker Muniain, Raul Garcia, Inaki Williams; Andre Villaibre.
Pepe Bordalas prefers to opt for 4-4-2 with Angel Rodriguez and Jaime Mata. They are mainly supported by Marc Cucurella and the Cameroonian winger Allan Nyom. Such classic formation has been working well so far. Luckily, there is not a single name on their injury table.
Getafe: David Soria; Djene Dakonam, Raul Garcia, Damian Suarez, Xabier Etxeita; Marc Cucurella, Allen Nyom, Mauro Arambarri, Nemanja Maksimovic; Jaime Mata, Angel Rodriguez.
The draw results seem to be dominating in the head-to-head encounter of these two teams. They have been involved in a tight draw in four matches of their last six. Bilbao and Getafe also share the same number of victory for the remaining two meetings.
Bilbao should have all the advantage to win as they play in their home turf. However, their poor finishing touch in their attack for the past few games leads to another doubt for sealing three points. Another draw seems more likely for both.
