Poland vs North Macedonia: Match preview
Three rounds before the end of qualifying there is still a lot to be said in this group. Still Poland is the leader in the standings and has the best situation. They are five points ahead of Macedonia, a third placed team in the division and it is clear that a home win would virtually secure the standings. The Macedonians should not lose, and both selections registered victories on Thursday. In the first match, Poland won 1-0.
Poland team news:
The Poles have control over the situation in this group, though it has become more complicated after the defeat in Slovenia and the draw with Austria. They failed to score in those two duels, all after four games in which they celebrated without receiving a goal.
On Thursday they visited Latvia and it was clear that victory was imperative. They started aggressively from the start and very quickly led with 2: 0, and it ended with 3: 0. By doing that they triumphed for the fifth time without receiving a goal. Lewandowski was burst again and he scored all the goals, and now we expect Piatek in the top of the attack instead of Klich.
Probable lineup: Szczesny – Kedziora, Glik, Bednarek, Rybus – Krychowiak, Szymanski, Grosicki, Zielinski – Piatek, Lewandowski
North Macedonia team news:
Macedonians and not out yet and they are are still in the running for the EC placement. Still, objectively it will be very difficult to reach that goal. Somehow, they were already written off, and then they won a point in Israel and triumphed twice.
The victory in Latvia can be called the expected one, but on Thursday they also beat Slovenia and thus complicated the situation in the group. They had the imperative of winning, because otherwise they would have fallen out of all combinations. They managed to win 2: 1 with two goals from Elmas. It is aggravating that after Poland they have to visit Austria as well, so their chances are low.
Probable lineup: Dimitrievski – Ristovski, Ristevski, Musliu – Nikolov, Ademi, Spirovski, Alioski – Elmas – Nestorovski, Pandev
The Macedonians are struggling and hoping for a miracle. On this visit, those hopes could be extinguished. Poland is still a much better selection. They are on their own ground and with a win they can practically secure the EC. That is why we believe in the host’s safe triumph.
