Wolverhampton – Espanyol: Match preview
The Catalans played great in the group stage and especially in the away games. They recorded two wins and one draw. Unfortunately for them, they have big problems in the Spanish La Liga, as they are in last place with 19 points after four points in the previous two rounds.
We are not sure that the Europa League is in the forefront at the moment, unlike Wolverhampton, who is careless in the Premier League and will try to get as far as possible in their debut appearance in this European competition.
Wolves team news:
Great excitement lasted in Wolverhampton during the summer days as the team embarked on long European League qualifiers. After many years, Wolverhampton appeared on the European scene and wanted a chance to grab it.
Wolverhampton did it. He did a great job and he looked really good in the group stage too, where he played with Braga, Slovan from Bratislava and Besiktas. Overall, Wolverhampton were 4-1-1 in their group with 2-0-1 at home (Braga 0-1, Slovan Bratislava 1-0 and Besiktas 4-0).
Europe deserves a high rating so far, but they are not in the same rankings in Premier League games. The impression is corrupted by a truly large draw numbers (8-12-6).
We must emphasize that Wolverhampton has been the most unlucky of all English clubs through VAR’s entry to the Island, and has also remembered in the last two goals which ended without a goal (away from Manchester United and a home match against Leicester).
Probable lineup: Rui Patricio, Boly, Coady, Siass, Doherty, Moutinho, Neves, Jonny, Traore, Neto, Jimenez.
Espanyol team news:
Espanyol cannot be lower on the scale of its Primera. He is the last one, but we cannot say that the Catalan team is in a bad rhythm at the moment.
Recently, Espanyol went 2-2 against Barcelona and in their last appearance against Sevilla. He took a point against Athletic, defeating Vilarreal and Mallorca. Otherwise, just like his rival at this stage of the European League, Espanyol has been active in this competition since the summer.
Both passed the first hurdles easily, as well as the group stage where the Spanish team won the group with a 3-2-1 ratio. What should be emphasized is the excellent game of Espanyol in the away games. They celebrated in Moscow at CSKA and Ludogorets, while they took a point against Ferencvaros (2-2).
Likewise, Espanyol is better off as a guest than in its own stadium. He scored 12 of his 19 points (3-3-6) in the away game, and that probably raises optimism even before arriving on the very hot Wolverhampton pitch.
Probable lineup: Di. Lopez, Da. Lopez, J. Lopez, Cabrera, Vila, Lozano, Sanchez, Embarba, Darder, Vargas, Tomas (Wu Lei).
For us, Wolverhampton are the favorites to move on, but we don’t think we will see many goals in the first match. That is why we will go with not more than two goals.
