Dinamo Zagreb vs Shakhtar: Match preview
Dinamo Zagreb once again surprised in the Champions League and after a big win over Atalanta in front of their fans, scored a point in Ukraine against Shakhtar. Nenad Bjelica’s team is now in the second place of Group C with four points from three games, while the Ukrainian champion has the same number of points but also a worse goal difference. Manchester City are in first place with a maximum of nine points and Atalanta are at the bottom of the group with no points so far.
Dinamo Zagreb team news:
After the defeat to Manchester City, Dinamo tied for five games without a defeat. They have managed to keep their doors in the last two games and in the previous they secured a place in the Croatian Quarter Cup final.
Dinamo is unbeaten in front of their fans this season. Of the ten matches so far, Dinamo has won nine and only played one draw once. They have won the previous five at Maksimir with no goals received.
Dinamo has no problem with injuries and everyone is at his disposal before this match. Dani Olmo and Mislav Oršić are the main players in the Dinamo team and have already scored 11 goals in this year’s Champions League competition, including qualifying. It is unknown for now whether Bjelica will opt for Mario Gavranovic or Bruno Petkovic in the attack.
Probable lineup: Livakovic; Stojanovic, Theophile-Catherine, Dilaver, Peric, Leovac; Olmo, Ademi, Moro, Orsic; Gavranovic.
Shakhtar team news:
After five consecutive wins, Shakhtar has been unsuccessful in the previous three matches. Specifically, the Ukrainian champion played two draws before losing to major rival Dinamo from Kiev in the 1/8 finals of the domestic cup.
It was Shakhtar’s first failure on the away ground after seven consecutive victories. How dangerous they are, the Ukrainians proved in a 2-1 victory over Atalanta in Italy.
Unlike Bjelica, Luis Castro has injury problems. Maycon, Maksym Malyshev, Oleksandr Pikhalionok and Andrii Totovytskyi will not play in Zagreb. The Brazilian trio in the attack of Júnior Moraes, Taison and Marlos are likely to create the most problems for Dinamo goalkeeper Dominic Livakovic. The three have scored 24 goals this season, so the hosts’ defense needs to pay special attention to these Brazilians.
Probable lineup: Pyatov; Bolbat, Matviyenko, Khocholava, Cipriano; Stepanenko, Patrick; Tete, Taison, Solomon; Moraes.
Both teams need to win in this match, so it is hard to predict the final outcome. Maybe the most realistic outcome is draw. This is a result that goes more on a hand of team from Ukraine, so we are pretty sure that Dinamo will try to score from the first minute.
