Werder Bremen vs RB Leipzig: Match Preview and Prediction

The number 1 team on the current Bundesliga standings, RB Leipzig, is on the cloud nine. The series of positive result in both domestic competition and UEFA Champions League. However, this is still far from over. Timo Werner and Co know that there will be more challenge to come. This weekend, they will be visiting Weser Stadium to take on Werder Bremen. They might not be one of the elite teams today yet Davy Klaessen and Co still have the potentials to beat them, especially on their own home ground.

Werder Bremen news:

Werder Bremen seems to be still in search of the best tactical approach for the team. They have only had two wins and two losses in four games. However, the results of their last two games were quite positive as they managed to win over Augsburg and Union Berlin last week. The manager Florian Kohfeldt has attempted to employ several formation such 4-3-1-2, 3-4-2-1 or 4-1-3-2 so far but their form is still unconvincing. Their summer signings on loan such as the Swiss defender Michael Lang, Leonard Bittencourt and Omer Toprak have not shown their best performance yet.

RB Leipzig news:

Since the arrival of the most talented young manager in Germany, Julian Nagelsmann, at the club, RB Leipzig has gained new spirit for this season’s campaign. Their aim is surely to stumble and if possible, topple Bayern Munich, has been far too long to dominate Bundesliga. They have proven that they deserve it by holding Bayern in a draw last week and leading at the table by three wins. Timo Werner and Co even also managed to win against Benfica in their first game of Champions League this midweek.

Missing Players and Probable Lineups:

Bremen’s squad seems to be in crisis as a number of key players have to be sidelined due to the injuries and suspension. The most current one is the Japanese striker, Yuya Osako. He will be ruled out along with the captain Niklas Moisander, Ludwig Augustinsson and the striker Niclas Fullkrug. Another one will miss the game is Nuri Sahin, who is currently suspended. Therefore, Florian Kohfeldt is likely to deploy 4-5-1 or even 3-6-1 in this match.

Werder Bremen: Jiri Pavlevka; Michael Lang, Gebre Selassie, Marco Friedl; Davy Klaessen, Max Eggstein, Kevin Mohwald, Leonard Bittencourt, Milot Rashica, Johanness Eggstein; Josh Sargent.

Julian Nagelsmann has various formations he can opt for, from 4-4-2, 3-4-3 or his preference while he was still in Hoffenheim, 3-1-4-2. No matter which tactic he employs later, the key figures will be Timo Werner, Yrary Poulsen and Emile Forsberg at the front. They are quite versatile and have done well in several positions. Fortunately, they have no important players in the injury tables. Their injured players are Kevin Kampl and Konrad Laimer.

RB Leipzig: Peter Gulacsi; Willi Orban, Ibrahim Konate, Marcel Hastelberg, Lukas Klostermann; Diego Demme, Amadou Haidara, Emile Forsberg, Marcel Sabitzer; Timo Werner, Yusuf Yrary Poulsen.

Match facts:

Both teams seem to have positive records in their own way. Bremen have been undefeated eleven times of out twelve matches at home while Leipzig have won nine times in their last 11 away games. However, the host is better is the head-to-head meetings with 3 wins and 2 losses in the last six encounters.

The crisis in Bremen forward might be an issue for them as they rely on Osako and Fullkrug as the main scorer. Thus, the lady luck is likely to smile at Leipzig. Julian Nagelsmann’s men should be able to win and keep their position on the standings.
