AS Roma vs Cagliari: Match Preview and Prediction

The unusual change is currently seen in the 2019/2020 Serie A. The rise of Inter Milan to potentially stop Juventus’ years of domination, the fall of AC Milan and a potentially new dark horse, Cagliari. They are still on the seventh at the table but they have much better squad this season with a bunch of notable loaned players in it. Rolando Maran’s men have all their need to climb up to the European zone next season. Their campaign will certainly meet series of challenge. One of them is coming this Sunday as they visit Olimpico Roma. AS Roma is also in progress of reviving the team after they missed out Champions League. It is a battle of two teams which attempt to aim higher this season.

AS Roma news:

AS Roma’s campaign this early season has been fine. Paulo Fonseca’s men have been on the fifth of the standings with three wins and two draws. However, they have a quite different result in their last two matches, which were away. In Serie A last week, they sealed a three point against Lecce yet failed to win when they met Wolfsberger AC in Europa League on Thursday. Their summer signings have been quite satisfactory such as the goalie Pau Lopez, Chris Smalling, Jordan Veretrout and Henrikh Mikhtariyan.

Cagliari news:

Cagliari is not so much different from their counterpart. They have gained quite positive result in the past four games with three wins and one draw, including the surprising victory against Parma and Napoli while playing away. Apparently, Ronaldo Maran has been able to optimise the potentials of their new signings such as Giovanni Simeone, Marko Rog, Nahitan Nandez, and two former AS Roma’s men, Radja Nainggolan and the goalie Robin Olsen. The latter one will be highly motivated to prove the host that he does not deserve to be sidelined from the main post this season. This led him to go on loan for Cagliari.

Missing players and probable lineups:

The former Shakhtar Donetsk boss, Paulo Fonseca often opts for 4-2-3-1 relying on several youngsters on the attacking side such as Nicola Zaniolo and Justin Kluivert. Unfortunately, Cengiz Under will miss out the game due to the muscle injury along with Lorenzo Pellegrini (Metatarsal fracture), Henrikh Mikhtariyan (tear in the abductor muscle), Diego Perotti and possibly Alessandro Florenzi (flu).

Roma: Pau Lopez; Alexander Kolarov, Chris Smalling, Leonardo Spinazzola, Gianluca Mancini; Jordan Veretrout, Bryan Cristante, Javier Pastore; Nicola Zaniolo, Justin Kluivert, Edin Dzeko.

Rolando Maran might employ 4-3-1-2 as usual. Giovanni Simeone is expected to be in the line up. Unfortunately, several players such as the main striker Leonardo Pavoletti and Paolo Farago have to be sidelined due to their injury.

Cagliari: Rafael; Ragnar Klavan, Luca Pellegrini, Fabio Pisacane, Luca Ceppitelli ; Marko Rog, Luca Cigarini, Nahitan Nandez, Lucas Castro ; Giovanni Simeone, Joao Pedro.

Match facts:

Roma is certainly more superior in their head-to-head meetings. They have been unbeaten with four wins in the last six encounters. Edin Dzeko and Co are also undefeated in fourteen out of fifteen games at home.

Prediction:

Roma might have a better squad than their contender. Nevertheless, Cagliari’s positive trend plus Robin Olsen’s spirit to prove his former team might stumble the host as they did versus Napoli. AS Roma’s last game at home was also disappointing when they slumped to a defeat against Atalanta. Thus, a draw would be a fair result.
