Athletic Bilbao vs Valencia: Match preview
One of the most interesting matches of this round is being played in the Bilbao, where Athletic Bilbao will welcome Valencia on his field. When all is taken into account it must be said that Bilbao has been playing fantastic this season.
The best indicator for that is the current fourth place on the table, which at the end of the season brings the Champions League standings. This would be a historic success for this team. However, in the last round Bilbao failed to play well against Leganes, who has shown the least of all La Liga teams so far. That match has ended with a 1-1 result.
As for Valencia, the Bats have been playing with ups and down during this season. Perhaps the best indicator for that is the match of last round when they dropped an advantage of two goals against Getafe on their home ground, so that match ended with a 3: 3 score. Previously, Valencia had only drawn against Leganes on the court, although they missed a lot of opportunities in that match.
It is worth to mention Valencia’s big win away to Chelsea as part of the first round of the Champions League group stage. This is one of the few bright moments this season.
Athletic Bilbao team news:
A very good start for Athletic, which was objectively not expected. However, when they beat Barcelona at home in the first round by 1-0, confidence increased and one could feel that in the results.
True, they have three wins and a draw in six rounds, but we have to say that they have received only two goals and this is the least in the league. They achieved all three victories at home and did not recieve a single goal in those games.
They drew on three away games, 1: 1 at Leganes during the week. They led and held that lead for only three minutes. Yeray is back in the squad in defense, I.Lopez to the midfield, and Ibai Gomez and Muniain in attack.
Probable lineup: Herrerin – Capa, I.Martinez, Yeray, Berchiche – I.Lopez, Dani Garcia – Ibai Gomez, Raul Garcia, Muniain – Williams.
Valencia team news:
By no means is Valencia able to consolidate when it comes to Primera and that is why they are at the bottom of the table. They only won once when Mallorca fell on Mestalla 2-0.
They have lost in two away games, at Celta and convincingly at Barcelona. They also have three more draws in front of their fans. Especially hard one was in last round with Getafe.
They received a goal in the first minute and then fully recovered, taking a 3-1 lead at halftime. Maxi Gomez scored two goals and seemed sure to go for another win. However, they received two goals and it ended 3-3. Gameiro was injured, and Kondogbia was questioned, along with a previously injured player.
Probable lineup: Cillessen – Correia, Garay, G.Paulista, J.Costa – Parejo, Wass, Coquelin, Guedes – Maxi Gomez, Rodrigo.
Athletic is excellent in their field and overall they are playing very good. Valencia is weaker than expected. However, guests are always able to surprise and may still be able to play well and score. We expect the same from the host.
