Bayer Leverkusen vs RB Leipzig: Match Preview and Prediction

It has been a while since the last time any teams could end Bayern’s domestic domination. Borussia Dortmund was the last one so far. They did it in the 2011/12 season under Jurgen Klopp. No wonder that many teams have been attempting to break the chain of Die Roeten’s superiority and domination. Last season, Dortmund was close enough to end Bayern’s reign but failed at the crucial games at the end. Today, RB Leipzig and Julian Nagelsmann, who share the same ambition, join forces to step down Die Roeten. They both represent the bright future of German football and ready to challenge the tradition and write their own glorious history. Unfortunately, such dream might still be far from coming true. Julian Nagelsmann’s men, who had been leading the standings, surprisingly slumped to a defeat at home while hosting Schalke last week. This weekend, they will have to visit Bayer Leverkusen , which have the same points as them at the table.

Bayer Leverkusen news:

Leverkusen’s campaign in Bundesliga actually has been fine. Despite being trashed by Dortmund 4-0 in matchday 3, they are currently on the sixth of the standings with four wins and one draw. Their points are even the same as their contender as the runner up at the table. Last week, Peter Bosz’s men defeated Augsburg 3-0. Unfortunately, they lost against Juventus in the Champions League.

RB Leipzig news:

The arrival of Julian Nagelsmann, the most talented young manager in Germany today, has brought a new spirit in Leipzig’s team. His success in building a team of limited sources like his former one, TSG Hoffenheim, has attracted the club to recruit him. He is believed to help Leipzig complete further milestones in Bundesliga by ending Bayern’s reign. Yet, it is not easy as it seems. They shockingly suffered losses consecutively at home versus Schalke 04 last week and Olympique Lyon in the Champions League.

Missing players and probable lineups:

Peter Bosz is often in favour of typical 4-3-3 as he once employed during his time in Dortmund. However, it can be modified to 4-2-3-1 by counting on Kai Harvetz, Kevin Volland and Nadem Amiri to support the targetman, Lucas Alario. Unfortunately, Leon Bailey has to be ruled out due to torn muscle fibre.

Bayer Leverkusen: Lukas Hradecky; Jonathan Tah, Lars Bender, Sven Bender, Wendell; Charlez Aranguiz, Julian Baumgartilinger ; Kai Havetz, Nadiem Amiri, Kevin Volland,; Lucas Alario.

Julian Nagelsmann has various formations he can opt for, from 4-4-2, 3-4-3 or his preference during his time in Hoffenheim, 3-1-4-2. He relies on the key figures will be Timo Werner, Yrary Poulsen and Emile Forsberg at the front. They are quite versatile and have done well in several positions. Fortunately, no key players will be sidelined in this match. Only Kevin Kampl and Hannes Wolf are ruled out.

RB Leipzig: Peter Gulacsi; Willi Orban, Dayot Upamecano, Marcel Hastelberg, Lukas Klostermann; Diego Demme, Amadou Haidara, Emile Forsberg, Marcel Sabitzer; Timo Werner, Yusuf Poulsen.

Match facts:

In their head-to-head meetings, RB Leipzig have won four times in their last six encounters. Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen only managed to win once.

Prediction:

Considering the result in the previous matches, Lars Bender and Co should take the advantage to pick up three points from the downhearted Leipzig after their surprising loss. Yet, Nagelsmann’s men will certainly not let the defeat affect them. He could use it to motivate Timo Werner and Co to strike back. Therefore, a draw is an ideal result for both.
