Who would have thought that Watford would lose to Manchester United? Be that as it may, the team fought hard and it had been definitely fighting hard well before it met with the Red Devils who have been struggling a lot with their game. A livid Mourinho has bene fuming in the press for a good while now and he seems to have been losing what credibility he had.
Manchester United met Watford on Saturday. It was indeed a game to behold and as such we did expect competition from both teams. Oh, and what a competition it turned out to be indeed! Manchester United had a lot at stake to begin with. Let’s face it, the team has not exactly had the best of times with its recent embarrassing plays and lack of fresh blood into the squad.
Come what may, though, Manchester United have always been able o hold their end of the bargain and for all it’s worth – the team has seldom performed badly. To think that because of a few setbacks Man Unite are not a dangerous opponent is of course barmy. They are indeed quite the respectable team and one that will prove itself time and again.
What Led to the Victory?
The game was long and drawn-out. But Manchester United did seem t be on top of their game. Dressed in white, the footballers managed to play superbly and make sue that they will advance with more points into the EPL overall standing. It was definitely something to respect and admire in them. With this in mind, we ought to say that goals came from Romelu Lukaku and Chris Smalling. The pair managed to perform exceptionally and they gave Man United the sweet victory they have been hoping for.
What doubt there was that the Red Devils could play well was dispersed bar a Red Card, which visibly marred the mood. It’s been obvious, though that there have been quite a few slips on the part of all teams in the EPL.
Red Cards have been the element of most teams these days. Looking at yesterday’s matches, there is quite a few omissions to notice and all of that rather suck too. But it is what it is and often, in competitive play at this level, teams tend to be way more aggressive than is necessary.
Not As Many Penalties Though
It’s not to say that Watford didn’t demonstrate quite the aggressive plays themselves. And these have not always been warranted. Man United got a second red card simply because their player had already one Yellow Card a game before. This is not a crime, of course, but it goes to show how high the actual stakes are. It’s not always easy to expect footballers to play fair and square. But even if they do, thee are quite a few situations that will endanger their spotless performance.
Watford themselves got two Yellow Cards, which basically demonstrates that the game was really neck-and-neck and everyone wanted to win a the cost of come what may. With this in mind it would be difficult to judge anyone too harshly.
The Future for Both Teams
The English Premier League is full of surprises, of course. There is quite a fair bit of excitement going into each game and this trend is very likely to continue into the future. Manchester United will have to keep their end of the bargain if they want to remain in the lot of the top-performing teams. It’s not necessary that they will be the only team to strive to that kind of excellence.
With a bit of foresight the teams can easily stay on top of their respective games, but this will require some significant effort beforehand. Watford have as a result slipped a few points and won a few yellow cards that were definitely not worth it given the outcome of the game.
But seeing how things are in the EPL, sometimes the outcomes of games cannot be quite divined and teams are giving their best shot until the very last minute to make sure that they can in the very least try and make a change. A change in their own lot as it is.
